Babies may die after being fed the 'traditional African way', which occurs, of course, when they feed the baby to a pack of starving hyenas. The amazing thing is the use of the word "may". Sometimes the kids tough it out.

Bonds blasts #666. So far this year, Bonds is slugging 1.306 and his OBP is .647. He has eight homers in 36 at bats, and has homered in his last five games. Bonds now own just about every important single season record in baseball - OBP, slugging, and homers. The only thing left for him is to exceed the 20th century's top batting average of .426. Can Bonds hit .400 if he wants to? Would you bet against him?

'Net ninjas' take on web censorship. Gotta root for these folks. Their goal is to prevent a government or governments from taking over the people's technology, so that certain foreign governments can't block the freedom of their people to access the internet, and so that the web doesn't become another radio, where people may only say what the FCC allows them to say.

The latest Woodward excerpt: Cheney Was Unwavering in Desire to Go to War.
  • I have to say only one thing really concerns me in looking back through all this, and that was Dick Cheney's repeated assertions about Iraq's nuclear weapons. The failure to find other weapons - that can all be blamed on intelligence failures or maybe just on our failure to find them so far, and knowing that, one can still assume that everyone's intentions were good and noble. We do want to believe our government, after all, and pretty much everyone on both sides of the argument, in many parts of the world, believed that Saddam had bio and chem weapons. I think many people still believe the evidence will eventually prove that he did. But the nuclear thing - that's troublesome. It seems to me that either Cheney was (1) so freakin' dumb that he actually believed that despite no supporting evidence, and much evidence to the contrary, or (2) so cynical and dishonest that he was willing to say anything that would drum up enough panic to support the case for war. I don't believe that Mr Cheney is an unintelligent man, so I think that number two is the only possible answer, and that scares me.
