Quentin Tarantino Wants to Tackle a James Bond film. When I first read this, I thought it was a bullshit idea. Then I realized it is a very good idea. Those Bond movies have become lifeless and repetitive, and the allegedly witty dialogue sounds like My Dinner With Andre Agassi. Whether you admire Tarantino or not, you have to concede that if anyone has the moxie to breathe some life back into this dead horse, it is he.

Troy opens fairly big, but is not "spectacular". Friday's box was about $17 million, less than Van Helsing did last week. (Although Van Helsing had no meaningful competition.) Troy needs to do better, because it has to cover nearly $200 million in production costs , and another $50 million for advertising and distribution.

Competition seeks the loveliest German word (Das schönste deutsche Wort): One of the nominees is "Vergangenheitsbewaeltigung". I'm not kidding. That is quite a complex and rich word - it means "the process of coping with the past" - but beautiful?
