RealClear Politics updates their electoral prediction to 254-220 in Bush's favor. Bush stays the same; but Kerry loses 17 net. He picks up New Hampshire from the undecided camp, but his lead in Pennsylvania drops into a dead heat.

Weekend Box Office October 15-17, 2004. Shark Tale and Friday Night Lights hold on to the one and two spots. The two puppet movies (marionettes and Richard Gere) finish three and four. Actually, it was virtually a three-way tie for second. Shall We Dance garnered the highest revenues per screen. Raise Your Voice died an ugly death.

Bobby Fischer claims he has a huge penis. Fischer really did make that claim, but this article is actually very sad. It is amazing that a man as smart as this could have lost his mind so completely.

Not that it really matters, but just for the record ... Daily Endorsement Tally - Kerry leads in newspaper endorsements by a 43-27 margin, and if it is weighted by the circulation of those 70 newspapers, Kerry holds nearly a 3-1 edge.

Although Gallup's latest shows Bush widening his lead to eight points, Zogby's rolling average system actually shows Kerry cutting the lead to two.

Handy electoral vote summary from various sources. It divides the battleground states into those consistently favoring Bush, those consistently favoring Kerry, and those where the polls disagree. Looking at it that way, the four true battleground states are Ohio, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Iowa.

Here's how Rasmussen sees the key battleground states. Pennsylvania - Kerry by 1, Ohio - Bush by 2, Wisconsin - Kerry by 1, Iowa - Kerry by 4, Florida - Bush by 3, New Hampshire - Kerry by 6. Michigan - Kerry by 3, Minnesota - dead even. They call the electoral college 213-194 in favor of Bush, with 131 votes a toss-up.

Bush surges in poll. In the USA Today/Gallup/CNN poll, President Bush took a commanding 52-44 lead, although he had trailed Kerry 49-48 in the same group's previous poll, taken just a week earlier.

The best scam yet: Iraqi reconstruction funds. "One chunk of the money -- $1.4 billion -- was deposited into a local bank by Kurdish leaders in northern Iraq but could be tracked no further: The auditors reported that they were shown a deposit slip but could find no additional records."
  • I'd like to see the deposit slip for 1.4 billion dollars. Do you think they used the drive-up tellers? It'd be hell to fit $1.4 billion into those little pneumatic tubes.

Current Electoral Vote Predictor has now moved Kerry back in the lead 253-247, 38 undecided. Today's shift was caused by moving Wisconsin from Bush to Kerry. Wisconsin is another one that will go down to the wire with Ohio, Florida, New Hampshire and Iowa. Gore barely won it in 2000, by 2/10 of a percent. It seems that this is going to be one nail-biting election day!

Superman has been chosen. It is a relatively unknown actor named Brandon Routh. He's from Iowa, he's 25. He hasn't had a major role in a big project. End of story.

Michigan Central Depot's new role: a movie set. One of Detroit's biggest symbols of urban decay is going Hollywood. The spooky 91-year-old Michigan Central Depot will be featured in a major science fiction film starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. "The Island" will be directed by Michael Bay, is expected to come out next year.
