The poster for Sky High (2005)
  • This Disney flick is "set in a world where superheroes are commonly known and accepted. Young Will, the son of Commander Stronghold and Jetstream, tries to find a balance between being a normal teenager and an extraordinary being."
  • Apparently this movie was made for those who liked everything about The Incredibles except the fact that it didn't suck.

Two new international clips (extrait) from Creep. I like the premise, but the clips are less promising.
  • London, midnight, on a cold evening. Unable to find a taxi, Kate (Franka Potente) heads for the Underground. She takes a seat away from the crowd of late-night revelers and waits for the last train. Before long she drifts off to sleep… and wakes to find everyone gone. She momentarily panics until another train pulls in. She boards, unnerved that she's the only passenger, but relieved at last to be on her way. Halfway through the tunnel the train jerks to a violent halt. The lights shut off and the train is plunged into darkness. Kate screams… she is trapped, in the dark… and she is not alone… her nightmare has only just begun.

Follow up: prior to the publication of Joanne Peterson's book, here's the former gossip summary of: Brian Epstein's alleged sexual relationship with John Lennon
    The report says:
  • Brian had kept "on and on." Lennon eventually said, "Oh, for Christs sake, Brain, just stick it up me arse then." Brian had apparantly shown a preference to merely masturbating the Beatle. ("What's a wank between friends?").
  • Peter Brown has written that Brian told him John allowed him to make love to him. Albert Goldman, not one to shy away from detail, asserts that Peter Brown only meant oral sex.

eBay item - PAN THAT MAY OR MAY NOT MAKE A GRILLED CHEESE VIRGIN MARY
  • "THIS pan made an omelette that looked like Charlton Heston once, and also a corned beef hash where I could distinctly see an image of Oliver Reed. Now these two legends have both been stars of biblical films and I'm sure it's just a matter of time before the Virgin Mary appears on a pancake or a waffle."
  • "(of course this can not be guaranteed and as such I do not wish to be held responsible if you only manage to make Willem Dafoe or something)"

The trailer from YES - A film by Sally Potter
  • "YES is the story of a passionate love affair between an American woman (Joan Allen) and a Middle-Eastern man (Simon Abkarian) in which they confront some of the greatest conflicts of our generation - religious, political and sexual.
Sam Neill plays the betrayed and betraying politician husband, Sheila Hancock the beloved aunt and Shirley Henderson the philosophical cleaner who witnesses the trail of dirt and heartbreak the lovers leave behind them, as they embark on a journey that takes them from London and Belfast to Beirut and Havana."

The trailer from Jodie Foster's comeback, Flightplan.
  • This is one of the best trailers I've ever seen. Exciting, gets you hooked, doesn't give anything away.
  • Academy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer ("A Beautiful Mind," "Apollo 13") teams up with two-time Academy Award-winning actress Jodie Foster ("Silence of the Lambs," "The Accused") in the taut psychological thriller, "Flightplan," directed by Robert Schwentke and written by Peter Dowling and Billy Ray. Flying at 40,000 feet in a cavernous, state-of-the-art 474 aircraft, Kyle Pratt (Foster) faces every mother's worst nightmare when her six year-old daughter, Julia, vanishes without a trace mid-flight from Berlin to New York. Already emotionally devastated by the unexpected death of her husband, Kyle desperately struggles to prove her sanity to the disbelieving flight crew and passengers while facing the very real possibility that she may be losing her mind. While neither Captain Rich (Sean Bean), nor Air Marshal Gene Carson (Peter Sarsgaard) want to doubt the bereaved widow, all evidence indicates that her daughter was never on board resulting in paranoia and doubt among the passengers and crew of the plane. Finding herself desperately alone, Kyle can only rely on her own wits to solve the mystery.

I saw the movie the other day and I had the distinct impression as the shower scene was unfolding that Kidman was planning on leaving through the window in the first place, regardless of the bad guy. I was thinking that she wanted to go somewhere without Penn knowing. I don't know why I thought this and you didn't, and I can't even what would make me think this (it probably had something to do with her mannerisms, or the clothes she took into the bathroom?).

I don't really remember what happened with Kidman after that scene, but I don't think they had her doing another secret meeting or anything. Perhaps there was supposed to be one and it got cut?

Blogger Uncle Scoopy said...

You may be right. It is possible to read the scene that way. She was acting sneaky, but ...

That interpretation makes the scene worse, not better. It means that of all the times she could have chosen to flee, she chose the exact two or three seconds available between the last time Penn saw her and the time the baddie made it to the bedroom.

So, she did that without knowing the baddie was there, and it was just a coincidence that she happened to leave at the exact time necessary ...

Plus, if she was planning to leave, and the whole shower thing was an act to fool Sean Penn - why did she turn the water on and leave the curtain closed? He couldn't tell if the water was running from across the street.

The running water should have been meant to fool someone actually in the apartment, not someone watching from across the street.

Right?

Blogger Uncle Scoopy said...

I think the answer to my question is that she ran the water because it was necessary to fool the bad guy who was in the apartment - even though she didn't theoretically know he was there.

Today in Uncle Scoopy's Guest House - Moira Kelly looks great in the low budget sci-fi flick, Daybreak.
