New releases bomb. Wonka and The Wedding Crashers hold 1-2.
  • It was a very weak Friday, with the Top 12 pulling in only $40 million, down substantially from last week's $50 million.
  • The best success story of the weekend so far is Wedding Crashers, which took in 7.6 million on Friday - 19% of the Top 12's total - that's only a hair less than the 21% it took in last Friday.
  • The four new releases took in only 14 million combined!
  • The Island took in less per screen than the penguin movie.

Spoof of Bush administration wins the Faux Faulkner Contest. Likening President Bush to the 'idiot' in 'The Sound and the Fury' was the trick to winning this year's Faulkner write-alike contest. In a parallel contest, they also choose a Faux-Hemingway winner.

Love-struck Kenyan offers Bill Clinton 20 head of cattle and 40 goats for the hand of his daughter in marriage. That is a hell of an offer. Twenty cows is enough to feed Kenya. Make me the same offer, and you can have my daughter, a toaster oven (never used), and my extra copy of "Not Another Teen Movie." (Sorry, dude. No Kiswahili subtitles.)

Nostalgia: The Petersen Automotive Museum in downtown Los Angeles has a display on the history of children's pedal cars. This page was created by an independent webmaster from pictures he took at the museum and some others from his own collection. Special thanks for all the work he put into this memory-jogging project.

Doesn't really look much like a cave. More like a regular wood frame house with a lot of stucco on it.

Here's an Aeon Flux clip called Jail Break.
  • Based on the MTV animated series created by Peter Chung, "Aeon Flux" is set 400 years in the future, when disease has wiped out the majority of the earth's population except for one walled, protected city-state, Bregna, ruled by a congress of scientists. The story centers on Aeon Flux (Charlize Theron), the top operative in the underground 'Monican' rebellion - led by The Handler (Frances McDormand). When Aeon is sent on a mission to kill a government leader, she uncovers a world of secrets.

The trailer for The Constant Gardener
  • "Based on the best-selling John le Carre novel and from the Academy Award-nominated director of 'City of God.' In a remote area of Northern Kenya, activist Tessa Quayle (Rachel Weisz) is found brutally murdered. Tessa's companion, a doctor, appears to have fled the scene, and the evidence points to a crime of passion. Members of the British High Commission in Nairobi assume that Tessa's widower, their mild-mannered and unambitious colleague Justin Quayle (Ralph Fiennes), will leave the matter to them. They could not be more wrong."

The trailer for Rumor Has It: "The film is about a young woman (Jen Aniston) who puts her marriage plans on the shelf so she can return home to Pasadena and unravel family secrets. She has discovered that the 1967 film 'The Graduate' was probably based on her family, her grandmother (Shirley MacLaine) was Mrs. Robinson and she doesn't know her real father."
