Who has the power to arrest the President?
This links to a fairly lengthy analysis of the various arguments. The short answer is that nobody knows. This question has perplexed constitutional scholars ever since the night Richard Nixon snuck out of the White House to rob a 7-Eleven.

Mozilla Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 is now available to developers and compulsive tinkerers
This is Firefox 3.0, and is built on a new layout engine (Gecko 1.9). It is not meant for everyday web surfers, and you should read all the disclaimers carefully. Personally, I'm not messin' with any Alpha releases. Hell, I haven't even bothered to download the official release of IE7.

FHM to shut down the American edition
"While the British version of FHM is No. 1 among so-called 'lad magazines' in the UK market where it originated, its American offshoot never approached market-leader Maxim in popularity (possibly in part owing to Maxim owner Felix Dennis's decision to launch a flanker title, Stuff, to eat up available consumer space prior to FHM's arrival here)."

Democratic Senator Tim Johnson of South Dakota reportedly suffers a stroke; Senate power in the balance
Here's why. When a senator dies or becomes incapacitated, the state's governor appoints a replacement. The governor of South Dakota is a Republican. The loss of even one Democratic senator is enough to change the senatorial leadership. It could get quite ugly because South Dakota seems to have two mutually contradictory laws regarding the replacement process, so each side will line up a battalion of lawyers to support whichever law supports their advantage. The Republicans will line up in favor of a law that would let the replacement serve until 2008. The Democrats will line up in favor of a law that makes the appointment short-term and mandates a replacement election 80-90 days after the vacancy occurs. Both sides will pretend that right and justice are somehow on their side.

Rolling Stone : The 100 Best Songs of 2006 (with playable links)
#1, "Crazy," Gnarls Barkley

"In a perfect world, Al Green could still sing collard-green soul gems like this one, but Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse stepped up with an instant classic, winning this year's "Hey Ya!" award for the song nobody even pretended not to like. Everybody tried to cover it (our personal fave: the Raconteurs') -- but nobody can hit the chorus like Cee-Lo, and nobody ever will."

In memoriam: Gene Wilder and the late Peter Boyle perform Puttin' on the Ritz in Young Frankenstein.

Everybody Loves Raymond star Peter Boyle, 71, died Tuesday night in New York after battling multiple myeloma and heart disease.
"Even without Raymond, Boyle would deserve a place in the comic pantheon for one other role alone: the Ritz dancing monster from Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein. What's odd, considering the two roles for which he's so fondly remembered, is that Boyle didn't start out to be an actor at all, let alone a comic one. Boyle was a Christian Brothers monk before he left the order for acting. And when he began acting, his best roles were intensely serious - led by his career-making title turn as a bigoted, violent factory worker in the 1970 film Joe."

When Stallone introduced this idea, I thought it was utter bullshit, but some of these scenes are sincere and effective, reminding me of the original Rocky movie.

The Grinch Who Scalped Christmas!
My youngest son was just telling me about this today. He had several friends who stood in line to buy PS3 for something like $550, and the LEAST they got for it on e-Bay was $1500 - thus enabling them to do all their Christmas shopping and still have plenty of beer money.

How Did I End Up On The Cover Of This Romance Novel? (The Onion)
"The cover artist must have followed me during a recent visit to my ancestral estate on the tempest-swept promontories of Northern Scotland. Judging from the picture, the sketch was based on the occasion in which I chanced upon Arden, the crofter's nubile young daughter, kneeling upon a rocky outcropping and picking some wildflowers from the weathered stone. Even though I had only just finished tiling seven acres of firm earth, I knew at once my broad, thewy arms could take her."
