Today's salute: an "other crappy" Christmas present:

I told my son to get me an album from the three TENORS, but he's not into classical music and I guess Wal-Mart tricked him with The Three Paulies. Oh, well. Big Paulie can sing, but Rocky's brother-in-law is a bit raspy, although I did like his rendition of "Da Shadow of Your Fuckin' Smile"

Video: Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B - A Walter Lantz Cartoon from 1941 which is no longer shown
It has essentially been banished because of what many perceive to be demeaning racial imagery. They have a point. The portrayal of black people, while not hateful, does illustrate our unsophisticated thinking in those days. The score for the cartoon is a great illustration of 1940s musical styles.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone meet with reason.com
"They were really bummed out when we called them and said we're going to do a Muhammad episode. They're like, 'Ahh, fuck. Oh my God, you guys.' Because they can't tell us no. A smaller show, they would've just said, 'No, you can't do it. End of story.' And a bigger show like The Simpsons wouldn't dare risk their franchise. It's such a stupid political move. But we're just stupid enough to do it."

Rosie O'Donnell is tied with Satan on a list of the biggest villains of 2006.
Of course, the poll isn't really fair, because Satan actually got more votes than Rosie if you count the votes he got under four other names: Lucifer, Beelzebub, The Father of Lies, and Dick Cheney

Kidding aside, Rosie, Cheney, Hugo Chavez, and The Prince of Darkness actually tied for seventh with a few others. The top six:

1. George Bush
2. Osama bin Laden
3. Saddam Hussein
4. Admadinehjad
5. Kim Jong-Il
6. Rumsfeld

The Giants sign Zito for $126 million.
Measured by the total dollar amount, it is the sixth-largest baseball contract in history, and the largest contract ever offered to a pitcher.

Zito's ERA has been over 3.80 for three consecutive years, and his average W-L record over that period is 14-12. He was also 14-12 the previous year. Pujols has to be feeling like a sucker for taking a mere $100 million. If Zito, with his 3.83 ERA, is worth $18 million a year, Pujols is worth approximately as much as The Netherlands. Zito had a mediocre 1.40 WHIP last year, and allowed opposing batters a .257 average. In comparison, Santana's WHIP was 1.00 and batters hit only .216 against him.

The worst films of 2006 - Uwe does it again
2006 was a bad, bad year for films. Six of the IMDb bottom eleven came out this year, including the bottom three. You'd think that would have been too much for Uwe Boll to overcome, but he did it. BloodRayne wasn't the worst film or even the second worst at IMDb, Metacritic, or Rotten Tomatoes, but viewed on balance, using the BCS method, it was the champ.

I should clarify. It was the co-champ, tying Tim Allen's Zoom, and the competition was practically a three-way tie, with Crossover only a hair "behind" the leaders.

As I look at the chart, my gut tells me that Crossover should have won. It is rated 1.1 at IMDb, second-worst of all time. (The lowest possible IMDb score is 1.0). It also scored a rare perfect 0% at Rotten Tomatoes, but its quest for the bottom was thwarted by a semi-respectable 30 at Metacritic. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I thought BloodRayne was halfway decent, at least by Uwe's admittedly low standards. Oh, it's no Casablanca, but I got through the thing without the fast forward button, which represents a personal first for a Uwe Boll film!

For reference, here's last year's list, also won by a Uwe Boll masterpiece - the perfect 1-2 punch of Uwe and Tara Reid.
