Today we salute an "other crappy" network: CNN.

Screen grab speaks for itself.

APOD: the Martian Analemma. OK, this one is just for us nerds. The rest of you move along.
"On planet Earth, an analemma is the figure-8 loop you get when you mark the position of the Sun at the same time each day throughout the year. But similarly marking the position of the Sun in the Martian sky would produce the simpler, stretched pear shape in this digital illustration, based on the Mars Pathfinder project's famous Presidential Panorama view from the surface."

Year-end box office recap: "Pirates" takes the most booty.
"Discounting for a slight rise in ticket prices, the number of tickets sold increased only marginally between 2005 and 2006. Last year, admissions numbered 1.4 billion. This year, they are headed toward a projected 1.44 billion."

A note from our old colleague Silver Dollar Sam. He has a small role in Curtis Hanson's poker movie, Lucky You.
"It looks like Warner Bros is finally going to show Lucky You. Two years to the month after we started filming. The latest date (this makes the third one) is set for March 16. The trailer is beginning to appear in theaters. It's also here. I appear in the trailer, which is remarkable because I have such a small role in only one scene. I appear seven seconds into the trailer in a blue jacket and glasses to the left in the frame (pictured below).

I also have the tag line toward the end of the trailer, "I'm all in." It's a line I discussed with Curtis Hanson and we changed it from just "All In". I told him my character was more assertive and needed the "I'm" and he agreed. I loved working with that man !!

My "how to" poker book is finished and I'm working on two more, one as a follow up. The other is the novel which may never be finished.

Britney starts off 2007 just the way she ended 2006, except with panties.
"Just before 1:00 am, the former pop princess – decked out in her best Cartier jewels, a black sequined Chloe dress and high-heeled Jimmy Choo shoes - was reportedly carried out of the Caesars Palace hotspot by security guards."

Monty Python sings Knights of the Round Table, with Star Trek visuals
Yeah, it's an odd idea, but it came out pretty good.

I just found out that Krista Errickson has been waging a campaign against the re-release of her 1989 film Mortal Passions
Mortal Passions DVD Krista Errickson (1989)

I guess she regrets having done the topless scenes. The guy from Rare Licensed DVDs bought up the entire remaining stock of this discontinued title, and dropped the price to sixteen bucks!

Uncle Scoopy's Guest House presents Love Scenes
This is a 1984 film which represented a major comeback for 1970s drive-in queen Tiffany Bolling. It had been something like seven years since she had taken on a lead role or done any nudity, but she really returned with a flourish!

Note that the "Rare Licensed DVDs" site is now offering a promotion on this item. Pre-order this item and get another free. Check out the details by clicking on the picture below.

Damn your soul to hell and win a free DVD!

Saddam did this a few weeks ago, but oddly enough the DVD he wanted was Biodome. The man was a monster Pauly Shore fan.

Cool chart: the total worldwide attendance for every James Bond film
Thunderball and Goldfinger remain #1 and #2 by a wide margin.

I can't remember why the franchise collapsed so dramatically between Thunderball and You Only Live Twice (both Connery movies)

Except for the original Casino Royale, which was a comedy, the worst three were all Dalton! Note how the franchise was rescued when they canned Dalton and hired Brosnan. Licence to Kill was the second worst of all time, barely beating Casino Royale, while Golden Eye is the best of the past 25 years.

People are already calling it the greatest Bowl Game ever.
Unrespected Boise State blew an 18 point lead, then came back from two seven point deficits, tied the game in the final seconds with a trick play, and finally won in overtime by goin' for a two-point conversion with another trick play. (Instead of going for the sure tie. If Statue of Liberty play fails, they lose.) Plus they're freakin' Boise State, kickin' Oklahoma's ass! Every Texan has to love that.

The worst album covers ever
Some of them are hilarious, but they are mostly obscure regional or specialty acts. Orleans ("Dance With Me") did make the cut for the infamous Waking and Dreaming album!

Damn, I really miss Devastatin' Dave, the Turntable Slave
