Weinstein titles leak to other rental stores Despite studio's exclusivity deal with Blockbuster
Speaking as a former retailer, I can tell you that this type of exclusivity is absolutely impossible to enforce, even if the courts rule that it does not violate any antitrust laws. There is nothing to stop the small retailers or the buyers from Hollywood Video and Netflix from simply buying out Wal-Mart's entire stock when they stock the new titles each Tuesday morning, and that probably won't cost much more than buying through their normal distributor, because Wal-Mart's profit margins on new titles are ridiculously low for the initial period. (Many small retailers routinely find it cheaper to buy many products from Wal-Mart than from their wholesaler.)

Scientist Develops Caffeinated Doughnuts
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that this was developed by one of those forensic scientists who is actually employed by the police.

Friends Season 8 deleted scenes
This footage was filmed before 9-11-2001 and scheduled to air after the attack. It was pulled for light-hearted skyjacking references.

Duke lacrosse rape case DA could be disbarred
District attorney Mike Nifong may face suspension or even disbarment. "Misleading the court is a big problem and it could be disbarable," said James Cohen, a professor at Fordham Law School who also specializes in ethics. "He's in very deep water. The question is how deep."

Just disbarred? I find it hard to believe he did nothing illegal. The thing I don't understand is "Why?"

"George Clooney and Pamela Anderson are dating, it has been reported."
Sounds improbable, given Clooney's virtually unlimited options, but I guess stranger things have happened.

Character actor Charles Lane turns 102 today
I remember him best as Homer Bedloe, the ornery old skinflint who was always trying to shut down the Hooterville Cannonball.

He was also in some of the most popular films ever made, including It's a Wonderful Life and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

The Pirate Bay has given up on Sealand, and is now seeking to buy an island
Obtaining an island won't be hard at all. Getting recognition as a nation might be tough.

If I were those guys, assuming I really wanted to do this and had the money, I'd consider buying up one of those island-nations which is sinking into the sea. Tuvalu might be a possibility, and it's already recognized as a nation. Just build your Dr. Evil Pirate Headquarters appropriately. Make the ground floor a parking garage. When the sea rises above ground level, you won't be needing any parking anyway, and you can convert it to a covered marina.

There is really no need for pirate dudes to own a nation in order to avoid copyright problems. There are plenty of rogue nations which need money and don't give a rat's patoot about international laws. I'll bet that Kim Jong-Il and/or some of the corrupt African governments will agree to set up your pirate operation if you cut them in on the action. In fact, I'm surprised that guys like Kim Jong-Il haven't already done this on their own, just to bust the world's chops.

Another possibility is Venezuela. In fact, Chavez would probably let The Pirate Bay set up in Caracas for free. I assume that Chavez does not believe in intellectual property to begin with, and he'd probably do it just to get America's goat.

Of course, there is always a downside risk to dealing with corrupt, ruthless, power-mad dictators, but that's the price of being a pirate, me buccos.
