"During January 2007, just 32.1% of American adults considered themselves Republicans. That's down from 34.5% a year ago and 36.0% two years ago."
In terms of the normal movement of party allegiances, which shift about as fast as tectonic plates, a 4% drop in two years is remarkable

IOC reprimands Pound for comments
It is just unreal that this guy keeps his job. Here was his reaction. "He (Armstrong) keeps alive this whole thing that he should be trying to fade away, that a French accredited laboratory found that he had six positive samples for EPO in 1999. Maybe he thinks if he huffs and he puffs, all of this will go away, but it won't."

Gee, do you think the reason Armstrong keeps it alive is that the French testing lab was later proven by an investigation to be not only wrong, but totally irresponsible?

It's easy to figure out why Armstrong's rivals think he was doping. Just about all of them were doping and they still couldn't catch him, ergo ...

Turns out he was just that damned good, and really worked that hard.

The curse of the Playmates
"Anna Nicole Smith is one of 25 women who met an untimely death after stripping naked for the mag's centre pages."

I'm not too sure how to discriminate between timely and untimely deaths, but the author really stretched to include some of these as curse-related. Niss November 1956 died of heart failure at 69. Miss October 1958 died a year ago from a heart attack, aged 74. OOOO-ooo. Pretty fuckin' eerie! This curse worked almost as well as my curse on the 1919 Detroit Tigers. (Every one of them is dead! Muaha-ha-ha!)

"George W's palace" rising from the banks of the Tigris.
"After roughing it in Saddam’s abandoned palaces, diplomats should have every comfort in their new home. There will be impressive residences for the Ambassador and his deputy, six apartments for senior officials, and two huge office blocks for 8,000 staff to work in. There will be what is rumoured to be the biggest swimming pool in Iraq, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, a cinema, restaurants offering delicacies from favourite US food chains ..."

It will be the size of eighty football fields. Presumably it will not have a bull's-eye painted on the side.

Petersen adds more sex and violence to Troy
"The director spent three months working on the new version, adding more sex and violence -- and about a half hour -- to a movie some already considered long at 162 minutes. To accommodate the extra footage, he had to get SAG clearances from the actors involved. 'This is more the film I wanted it to be,' Petersen said. 'It's very violent, but that's Homer and The Iliad.'"

Viagra to be sold over the counter on Valentine's Day.
"Men will be able to buy impotence treatment Viagra over the counter in Britain for the first time from Valentine's Day, chemist chain Alliance Boots said on Sunday. Three Manchester Boots pharmacies will sell the prescription-only medication made by U.S. drugs group Pfizer in a pilot program from February 14. Men aged between 30 and 65 suffering from erectile dysfunction will be able to buy four Viagra pills for 50 pounds ($97) without having to get a prescription from a doctor first. Instead, they will have a private consultation with a Boots pharmacist, when their medical history will be checked and measurements taken of their blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels."
