Well, I imagine the Aniston image must be real!!

I received a letter today from a law firm asking me to remove all the references which exploit the images from Choc Magazine! As you all know, I never had any of those images here in the first place, but merely links to other sites which had them, but I have taken the letter to mean that I am not allowed to have the links, so I removed them. Frankly, I don't know if linking to other sites is any kind of illegal activity, but I certainly don't want to mess with them, so I removed all the related links.

Since the letter specifically states that Universal claims to own the copyright to the image from Choc on the basis of ownership of The Break-Up, I guess we can assume that the image really is from The Break-Up, and not just a fake!

To elaborate, his e-mail to me specifically refers to the Choc picture as "the stolen image," which means it ain't just some old photoshop mock-up!

His use of the term "stolen" also means that it is not just an image from a European DVD, as some have speculated, but must be a frame lifted from uncropped footage by somebody lacking the permission to do so.

Oddly enough, that means that Aniston had to have been walking around completely topless (no pasties, i.e.) to film a scene for a movie with no topless scene! Pretty risky move for an actress so paranoid about topless images of herself.

As ol' Mel Allen would say, "How about that?"

New York State Bill Would Ban Spinning Hubcaps
Man, New York must be doing great. When I lived there the legislators had serious issues to address, but now they have taken care of all those major concerns and can find time for this kind of symbolic "student congress" stuff.

WIRED points out quite correctly that Ted Stevens's bill would NOT ban Wikipedia from classrooms
That accusation was total nonsense, even though it was spread through the blogosphere as truth. On the other hand, the bill could bann Digg, Reddit, Fark, and other similar sites which are commercial in nature and have social networking capabilities which allow visitors to communicate with other visitors. (Other Crap would also qualify under the old format, back when when we had user comments, and would qualify if we start up the comments again, which can be done with one checkbox on the Blogger software.)

Here is the actual bill.

Joe Rogan vs.Carlos Mencia continues: Rogan dropped by The Gersh Agency.
He had previously been banned by The Comedy Store. There's one important thing I have learned from this confrontation. I finally know why Carlos Mencia is so consistently unfunny ...

He's using Joe Rogan's material!

I'll bet he's been swiping material from Carrot Top, Stuart Smalley, and Mr. Bean as well!

The meanings and origins of phrases and cliches
Example: "Well, shiver me timbers." Here is their explanation:

Those of a certain age will remember Robert Newton, rolling his eyes and yarring it up in his archetypal Hollywood pirate role - Long John Silver in the 1950 film version of Treasure Island. Robert Louis Stevenson used "shiver MY timbers" several times in the original 1883 book; for example: "Well, he [Old Pew] is dead now and under hatches; but for two year before that, shiver my timbers, the man was starving!" Of course, Newton made the most of such "parrot on the shoulder" phrases and it also appears several times in the film's screenplay. Newton's version, like that of all self-respecting stage pirates, was "shiver ME timbers," with the occasional "Aaarh, Jim lad" thrown in. One meaning of shiver, which is now largely forgotten, is "to break into pieces." That meaning originated at least as early as the 14th century and is recorded in several Old English texts. The sailor's oath "shiver my timbers" is thus synonymous with "(If so and so happens then...) let my boat break into pieces." The question is whether any real sailor used the term or whether it was just a literary invention. Well, we can't be sure, although the fact that it actually means something and isn't just Newton-style hokum must count in favor of it being an authentic sailor's oath.

WTTW Chicago - Max Headroom Pirating Incident 11-22-87 (Comments by submitter)
"Actual video of an infamous signal hijacking incident in Chicago in 1987. An episode of Dr. Who on Chicago's PBS station was interrupted by a guy in a Max Headroom costurme babbling. The same stunt was pulled on WGN during a news broadcast earlier the same day, though there was no audio from the pirate the first time and WGN was able to cut away much sooner. To this day, the perpetrator is unknown."

Here are two links providing details on the incident ( 1, 2 )
