Another Oscar Night special: Welcome Back, Kotter (the movie), starring Ice Cube.
... from the writer/director of The Hot Chick

If you really want to make this concept work, here's how: hire John Travolta, and make the storyline about Barbarino's return - as a teacher. That would follow the original Kotter premise. (Kotter himself was a former troublemaker returning as a teacher.) Gabe Kaplan could do a cameo as a retired Kotter.

I won't guarantee that I would buy a ticket for that, but you'd at least have my attention.

"More than 20% of the Iraqi government's Ministry of Interior staff are "ghost employees" - nonexistent workers who collect paychecks."
I wonder if Carl Pavano is one of their employees. Who says those Iraqis can't learn the American ways.

Plus-sized pitcher Rich Garces plans a comeback
Interestingly, we will not be pitching. He plans to follow Herb Washington as the second-ever designated runner.

All kidding aside, Garces has supposedly trimmed down to a svelte 230, but then again he was listed at 250 when he played, and that was about 100 pounds below reality, so maybe we should hold off from making any conclusions until we see a recent picture.

Weekend Box Office Results for February 23-25, 2007
Placid mediocrity ruled the Oscar weekend. There were no surprises among the top performers, and there were no noteworthy trends. The weekend was 2% above last year, 3% below 2005. Yawn.

The closest thing to excitement came from the bottom of the charts, where three new releases swapped funds. The Astronaut Farmer and The Abandoned, between them, fell about four million short of expectations, but the slack was taken up by an unheralded film called Amazing Grace, which finished in tenth place with more than $4 million, despite being in fewer than 800 theaters. When all the dust has cleared and these estimates are replaced by official results, Amazing Grace may end up with the highest revenues per theater! (As it stands now it is a virtual three-way tie between The Number 23, Amazing Grace, and Ghost Rider)

Amazing Grace is a biopic about an 18th century idealist who fought to abolish slavery in the British empire. It stars the guy who plays Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four
