The Slashdot crowd discusses a Bill Gates presentation from 1989
"A 1-1/2 hour recording of Bill Gates addressing a crowd of university students in 1989 was recently found and digitized. The speech has found a permanent home on the web page of the University of Waterloo CS Club, where the talk is reported to have taken place. Gates covers the past, present, and future of computing as of 1989. While the former two might be of interest to tech historians, the real fascination is Gates's prediction of computing yet to come. By and large, he had accurately, chillingly, prophesied an entire decade or two of software and hardware development. All in all, a fascinating talk from one of the most powerful speakers in CS and IT."

A. Robins and Sam Levine, both of the performers known to audiences as 'The Banana Man'.
The clip of Mr. Robins is from late in his career and is taken from the 1947 film "Mother Wore Tights".

The clip of Mr. Levine is from late in his career as well and is believed to be from an early 70s (possibly his final) appearance on "Captain Kangaroo."

This guy managed to bore and terrify me simultaneously when I was a kid. He would just go on and on and on ... as you can see in this clip.

#2 seed Georgetown defeats #1 North Carolina
The Final Four is set. 2-seed Georgetown vs 1-seed Ohio State and 2-seed UCLA against 1-seed Florida

All four of those teams finished in the top eight in the final regular season coaches poll as well. Ohio State was #1, Florida #3, UCLA #6 and Georgetown #8. I guess that makes G-town the Cinderella team.

There is only one team left from the three who defeated Ohio State during the season, and that's Florida. In fact, the Gators demolished them 86-60, a defeat OSU would love to avenge.

Weekend Box Office Results for March 23-25, 2007
It was another excellent weekend despite the facts that (1) there is no monster hit on the top of the list and (2) not one of the top ten has so much as 70% positive reviews, and half of them are below 30!

Once again the "something for everyone" formula worked perfectly, as the box office zoomed 27% above last year, which was in turn 11% above the previous year. This marked the sixth consecutive week of increases, and the average margin over last year has been nearly 25% in that period.

The new films performed more or less according to expectations. The only significant discrepancy from the predictions was a slight gain by the Turtles, which was offset by a slight loss for Marky Mark's thriller.

Among the carry-overs, 300 fell only 37% from last week, and Wild Hogs fell only 24%, as they each topped the forecasts.

On the bottom of the charts, the studio is making another half-hearted attempt to market Miss Potter, the biopic starring Ewan MacGregor and Renee Zellweger. It was in 40 theaters in January, then dropped as low as seven a couple of weeks ago, and is now back up to 87. For months it was trailered before every single movie I saw, but the marketing gurus apparently figured it didn't have any mass appeal. (Not sure why. It scores 7.1 at IMDb, got a Golden Globe nomination, and earned 63% positive reviews. You'd think they would have pushed it as a family picture, give its squeaky-clean PG combination of Peter Rabbit cartoons and live actors. Maybe they'll push it for Easter, given the bunny theme.)

The best part of this occurs after the long-winded intro - watch the very white-bread host start dancing along to the blues beat! He looks like Dick van Dyke doing that chimney sweep dance. Groovy, man!

Nearly a third of Americans have no internet access, don't intend to get any.
I suppose they are older people who have little contact with younger people. My sister lives alone, has no interest in computers, let alone the internet!
