Are you reading this, Colbert? Ah, Columbia, "weary of beavers"!
Columbia will spend the next year shooting beavers, but a PETA expert is visiting to see if it will help to lubricate them.

Iran releases second Turney letter
This one seems a little suspicious to me: "Dear Mister Blare. Pleeze to make the UK into an Islamic theocracy. Your friend, that female British saylor."

Easter in Slovakia. A bad time to have a vagina.
"It is difficult to understand, I admit, why a young girl dressed up in the national costume should be screaming with apparent enthusiasm while being chased by a bunch of young men who are trying to catch her and throw her in a nearby creek. An inevitable part of our Easter fun stems from a special willow cane which is hand-woven and decorated with colourful ribbons. Men pursue women brandishing the light branch, called a "korbac" in Slovak, and use it to "whip" women on the legs when they catch up with them. According to the traditional ritual, the ribbons on the cane, one of which is added by each victim, testifies to the number of girls and women a lad has managed to soak or whip. In turn for the happy bath and the enjoyable whipping of legs, girls give away hand-painted eggs, or chocolate eggs to young boys."

" ... by male standards it is thought to be the greatest fun if they can attack the unwary victim with a bucketful of cold water in her bed. During the morning, the male relatives and friends ring the doorbell and repeat the ceremony of splash-and-whip again and again. As a woman you have to make sure that you have enough dry things to change into because you never know how many visits you can expect."

Reverend Fred Phelps rails against Stewart/Colbert and their "satanic spirit of mockery"
His premise: the people of Sodom ignored Lot's warnings because they thought he was just an ironic poseur like Colbert!

(Actually, I think Colbert is a Sunday School teacher, so he's not much of a "Godless Sodomite")

Daily Box Office for Wednesday, March 28, 2007
Kind of an interesting phenomenon this week. 300 has taken back the #1 position. TMNT's opening day was $2.7 million above the Spartan epic. On Day 2, its lead was cut to $1.1. On Day 3, the cap was half a million. 300 finally passed the turtles on Day 4, and has been on top during Days 4-6

"a rumor spread like wildfire across the Capitol today that Kyle Sampson, Alberto Gonzales' former chief aid, is actually a clone of Karl Rove."
"Al Gore, in his Congressional testimony, acknowledged that Rove clonings might well present a bigger threat than even global warming: "the blossoming of Turd Blossoms will surely do more damage to the planet than the melting of the polar ice caps. I would therefore propose either a tax or cap on Rove clonings, or if that doesn't work, simply putting Rove in a lock-box."

GALLUP: Bush Run of Sub-40% Approval Ratings One of the Longest
"Bush's current run of six consecutive months below 40% has been exceeded by only three presidents (a total of four times)."

Carter had two streaks of seven months each. Nixon had 13 months in a row, Truman 26 in a row. President Bush has 21 more months in office, so he can break Truman's record if he makes the extra effort. Truman will undoubtedly remain the true champ, though, because during those 26 months his approval rating averaged below 30.

Late Night Political Jokes
"According to the L.A. Times, insurgents in Iraq are targeting educated people like professors and librarians. If the intelligent are targeted and killed, then the only ones left to lead the country will be the ignorant. So, at least they are getting closer to an American-style democracy." --Jay Leno

"In his new tell-all book, Republican former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said he partied too much, drank too much, and slept with too many women he wasn't married to. You know what the Republicans call a guy like that? A Democrat." --Jay Leno

The Most Memorable Entrance Music for Closing Pitchers
Some of the more obscure: "Mr Whammy" Papelbon comes on to the tune of the theme song from the "Press Your Luck" game show, while the legendary Jose Lima, when he was a closer in the mid-nineties, entered to the strains of "You Light Up My Life (and my fastball)"

Here is John Rocker's theme music. You know you want to look.

Keith Olbermann shot down by a porn star
My all-time best put-down: a woman in the UK told me that she couldn't attend a show with me one night because she had to cut her grass before going on vacation. And she did this in front of one of my colleagues from the USA, who promptly called everyone he knew, and probably the Washington Post and Regis Philbin. For about two years I listened to every possible joke and double entendre about mowing women's lawns.

Obama was a lousy poet.
Well, there go his credentials for the Presidency. In every Presidential election since 1884, the winner has been the guy who wrote the best poetry while in his teens. In that year, James G. "Spenserian Sonnet" Blaine lost a close election to Grover Cleveland, who wrote only two half-hearted poems on non-consecutive occasions.

There is one other exception if one considers "third party" candidates, the case of the 1924 defeat of "Rhymin' Bob" Lafolette

Mr. Bean only laughs once every 5yrs
Which is still way more often than I laugh at Mr Bean!

To be fair, although Americans think of Rowan as the British Carrot Top, he can be hilarious. You'd never know it from the astoundingly witless Mr. Bean adventures, but Rowan was absolutely brilliant (as was Hugh Laurie, TV's House, who became a regular in the third season) in the Blackadder series.

Bush serves jokes at broadcasters' dinner
On Dick Cheney: "He's had a rough few weeks. To be honest, his feelings were kind of hurt. He said he was going on vacation to Afghanistan where people like him better."

Looking ahead to life after leaving the White House, Bush said he might follow President Clinton's lead and produce a memoir. "I'm thinking of something really fun and creative for mine," he said. "You know, maybe a pop-up book."

The trailer for I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
OK, I know this movie looks like it sucks, but about ten seconds before the end of the trailer Jessica Biel strips down to her underwear. Woo-hoo! VERY impressive. If you like what you see and want it in glorious 1080 HD, find the HQ trailers here.
